There have been many times in my life that has proven to be good times. Times like having learned something new and exciting or being the center of attention for a bit. These times have been great, but the time in my life when I have been at my best occurred when many times like this happened consecutively: my junior year of high school.
My junior year was filled with many athletic accomplishments. It was my third year in a row of being Atlantic’s top female distance runner. I felt like I could run forever. I was in the best shape of my life, and I had the best toned muscles ever! I never ran worse than eighth place at a cross-country meet, except for the state meet where I was seventeenth. The spring was also a great time for running. I set my personal record in all three events I ran (the mile, two mile, and half mile). I was one, one hundredth of a second from being on the chart for the top five fastest girls in our school’s history. I was so confident, and in the best physical shape of my life thus far.
Another great thing that happened my junior year was my involvement in the marching band. I had been in marching band my freshman and sophomore year also. It was my junior year, however, that we did really well, and I was better friends with the members of the band in my section. Together on the band trips we had so much fun goofing around. Our hard work in the band was rewarded at the end of the school year, and the entire band got to take a weeklong trip to Florida. While we were in Florida, we marched with the DisneyWorld parade. It was so much fun.
It was also my junior year that I really found my friends. Before I found my friends, I had been friends with some girls who were not very nice. The friends I found were active in cross-country and track as well. It was the fact that they liked to have fun the right way that really drew me to them. I know we will be friends for a long time.
It is because of these reasons my junior year was the best time of my life. I am so thankful for all of the opportunities I had to figure out who I am and what I am all about during this time. My confidence was boosted, I was in great shape, I was excited about marching band, and I had great friends. It was a great year.

It sounds like you were really busy your junior year. It takes a lot to go to state for cross country and track and yet you were still in the marching band.
ReplyDeleteThats pretty sweet that you were the top runner for that many years starting off as a freshman. Also being in the marching band plus other activities is pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteThat's sweet! I was involved in track too and I know exactly what you went through... minus the whole long distance thing :)
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that you were so involved in track and marching band at your school! Track and running in general is something that I totally suck at so great job being super fast!!
ReplyDeleteThats amazing to be able to run the mile, two-mile, and half mile all in one meet!

ReplyDeleteWay to set a pr in those three events-im sure it was awesome! I'd have to agree with you- my junior and senior xc years were definitely my best!
ReplyDeleteCross country is the best sport ever. Ha, but really, that is amazing that you worked hard enough to do so well! 17th at state means you pretty much rock :) And good job in finding positive places for confidence, like band and xc -this will help you tremendously in college... Confidence can mean the difference between an A or a B, or on whether you get an internship.
ReplyDeleteThats amazing how you never came in later than 8th place! As for being in band, I was in it myself and we took a week long trip to NYC. You must have been busy, but the rewards must have been great!
ReplyDeleteThats awesome that you tore up cross country like that, I mean getting 17th at the state meet is a great accomplishment. My best friend was also great at cross country and now runs in college which is just crazy stuff. My hats off to you fast people.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you had a great high school experience, I hope you can be involved with stuff and stay active here at ISU as well. Good luck!
